API News Advanced Photonix, Inc. Announces $1.2 Million Large Area Avalanche Photodiode (LAAPD) Contract
ANNARBOR, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 2006--Advanced Photonix, Inc.(R) (AMEX: API) announced today that it has entered into a $1.2 million contract with a leading medical manufacturer located in Europe for its patented Large Area Avalanche Photo Diode (LAAPD) cooled detectors. It is expected that shipments will commence and be completed within the next 12 months.
API's patented LAAPD detectors are ideal for low light level detection. In addition to high quantum efficiency, large active area, internal gain, excellent spatial uniformity and mechanical ruggedness, the availability of integral cooling enables excellent performance stability. API's enabling technology has proven to be ideal for this medical application which requires low light level detection.
API's LAAPDs incorporate several proprietary and patented technologies, including special passivation of the beveled edge architecture and the use of neutron transmutated silicon. This type of silicon is characterized by excellent doping uniformity and a low number of lattice defects.
