ABN AMRO Holding N.V., through its subsidiaries, provides a range of banking products and financial services worldwide. The company operates in six segments: Consumer and Commercial Clients, Wholesale Clients, Private Clients, Asset Management, Private Equity, and Group Functions/Group Shared Services. The Consumer and Commercial Clients segment provides consumer and commercial banking services to consumer clients and small to medium-sized enterprises in the Netherlands, North America, Brazil, India, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The Wholesale Clients segment offers a range of services, including advisory, capital markets, financing, and transaction banking as a corporate and investment bank. The Private Clients segment provides private banking services to individuals and families. The Asset Management segment offers investment products for central banks, pension funds, insurance companies, and charities in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia. The Private Equity segment buys equity stakes in unlisted companies, and then manages these shareholdings for a number of years with a view to sell them at a profit. The Group Functions/Group Shared Services segment provides asset and liability management services for the group. The company also offers a range of consumer loan products and programs, such as personal loans, home mortgages, credit cards, and home improvement loans. As of December 31, 2005, ABN AMRO operated a network of 3,557 offices and branches in 58 countries and territories. The company was founded in 1825 and is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
