STEM StemCells, Inc. is engaged in research aimed at the development of therapies
that would use stem and progenitor cells derived from fetal or adult sources
to treat, and possibly cure, human diseases and injuries such as Parkinson's
disease, hepatitis, diabetes, and spinal cord injuries. The body uses certain
key cells known as stem cells to produce all the functional mature cell types
found in normal organs of healthy individuals. Progenitor cells are cells that
have already developed from the stem cells, but can still produce one or more
types of mature cells within an organ. The Company is not developing embryonic
stem cells for therapeutic use.
