Pharmacyclics, Inc. is a pharmaceutical company developing a new class of drugs to treat cancer and atherosclerosis. All of the resources have been dedicated to the research and development of the products, and have not generated any commercial revenues from the sale of products. The Company's pharmaceutical agents, known as texaphyrins, are synthetic small molecules designed to possess a variety of biological and chemical properties. These ring-shaped molecules have a central core that is capable of bonding with various metal ions. The properties of these molecules may be modified by substitution of different metal ions into the central cavity or by modifying the structure of the texaphyrin ring. This approach enables it to synthesize a number of agents, each possessing unique properties. The Company has two primary drug products, or research and development programs, for which it is focusing its efforts: Xcytrin and Antrin.
