Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (ECD) is a technology, product development and manufacturing company engaged in the invention, engineering, development and commercialization of new materials, products and production technology in the fields of alternative energy technology and information technology. The Company has developed materials that permit them to design and commercialize products, such as thin-film solar cell (photovoltaic) products, nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, and phase-change memory devices. ECD's materials, products and technologies are referred to as Ovonic. The Company operates in three segments: ECD segment, Ovonic Battery segment and United Solar Ovonic segment. All the activities of the Company are conducted directly, and through subsidiaries and joint ventures. In addition, ECD is engaged in the research and development, and production of its own materials and products, as well as in designing and building production machinery.
