Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company engaged in the discovery, development and commercialization of drug candidates for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. The Company has two lead drug candidates in late stage development for the treatment of diabetes, SYMLIN (pramlintide acetate) and exenatide. In early 2004, Amylin initiated a Phase II proof of concept study in the United States to evaluate the potential use of AC137 in the treatment of obesity. The Company filed an investigational new drug (IND) for AC162352 in December 2003, and intends to initiate a Phase I study in 2004. Amylin intends to file an IND for AC2592, its drug candidate for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, and initiate a Phase II clinical study in 2004. The Company is evaluating AC3056, a compound designed for the treatment of atherosclerosis-related cardiovascular disease that is in an on-going Phase I program.
