SVVS News National Labor Relations Board Selects SAVVIS Federal Systems to Consolidate and Manage Its IT Infrastructure
HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SAVVIS Federal Systems, Inc. (SFS), a global leader in IT infrastructure
services for business and government applications, today announced that
the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has selected SAVVIS IT Utility
Services as the solution to consolidate the NLRB’s
entire IT infrastructure.
With a large volume of stored documents to manage and several disparate
storage locations, the NLRB was facing the limits of its existing IT
configuration. The agency needed to centralize all information and make
it easier to access without a large outlay of capital. Equally, the NLRB
needed to ensure the security and disaster-readiness of its repository.
Designed and deployed by SAVVIS Federal Systems’
Professional Services team, the new five-year contact calls for the
migration of the NLRB’s existing IT
infrastructure onto the SAVVIS IT Utility Services infrastructure. This
combines virtualized utility servers and storage, with network and
managed security services, comprehensive 24x7 support, and is hosted in
one of SAVVIS’ ultra secure Washington, D.C.
area data centers. In addition to centralizing and consolidating
infrastructure, the new environment is designed to optimize the NLRB’s
ability to develop new SQL programs for additional e-Gov initiatives.
Future plans call for additional consolidation of certain west coast
facilities, as well as an expanded disaster recovery plan.
Drawing on the breadth of its service offerings, SAVVIS presented a
solution that allowed the NLRB to maintain a centralized repository as
well as a utility portal to manage and access all data remotely and
securely. The utility storage and computing, combined with a dedicated
firewall and security, create a flexible, scalable interface for NLRB
employees and associates throughout the country. The NLRB purchased the
entire solution from SAVVIS’ GSA Schedule 70.
“SAVVIS’ managed IT
utility services supports and underpins our risk management strategy,”
said Richard Westfield, CIO of NLRB. “In
addition to being the only provider able to offer a complete IT
infrastructure solution on a zero capital expenditure basis, their
adaptive and scalable solution solves our immediate IT problems and
provides a flexible roadmap for future growth.”
Leveraging more than 10 years of development, SAVVIS’
virtualized IT utility services delivery platform provides every piece
of the IT infrastructure – hosting, network,
storage, security, and computing – on a
massively scalable, pay-as-you-go basis. Combined with SAVVIS’
full suite of professional services offerings, SAVVIS delivers IT
infrastructure as a service as a cost-effective and flexible way to
provision a total IT solution.
“We are proud to be selected by NLRB to
deliver and manage an end-to-end IT infrastructure to support the agency’s
mission,” said Don Teague, Vice President of
SAVVIS Federal Systems. “Virtualized and
managed IT utility solutions, like those provided by SAVVIS, are playing
an increasingly important role in the overall IT operations of federal
agencies by delivering an integrated set of services that is not
possible with conventional architectures.”
About the NLRB
The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency
created by Congress in 1935 to administer the National Labor Relations
Act, the primary law governing relations between unions and employers in
the private sector. The statute guarantees the right of employees to
organize and to bargain collectively with their employers or to refrain
from all such activity. Generally applying to all employers involved in
interstate commerce--other than airlines, railroads, agriculture, and
government--the Act implements the national labor policy of assuring
free choice and encouraging collective bargaining as a means of
maintaining industrial peace. Through the years, Congress has amended
the Act and the Board and courts have developed a body of law drawn from
the statute. For more information, visit http://www.nlrb.gov.
