Apple removes apps after Cartier suit

May 23, 2009 (United Press International) -- Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has withdrawn two software applications after Cartier International N.V. filed suit against the U.S. computer company, the luxury good maker says.

Jonathan Lagarenne, an attorney representing Cartier, said Friday Apple had taken the iPhone applications off the market to address the French jeweler's copyright infringement suit filed earlier in the day, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Cartier say the software, sold through Apple's App Store, infringed on a trademark held by Swiss parent company Compagnie Financiere Richemont (OOTC:CFRUY) SA for the luxury brand's Tank watches.

The suit was the second time in two months an iPhone application has caused controversy. Last month Apple removed a game in which players shook their phones to silence a crying baby, the Journal said.
