Brocade Next-Generation Midrange SAN Switch Solution Added to HP StorageWorks Portfolio
Innovative 4 Gigabit SAN Switch Delivers High Performance and Ports-on-Demand Scalability to HP StorageWorks Customers
SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade) , the world's leading provider of infrastructure solutions for Storage Area Networks (SANs), today announced that its new 4 Gigabit per second (Gbit/sec) SAN switch technology will be added to the HP StorageWorks B-Series portfolio of SAN infrastructure solutions beginning January 17, 2005.
Based on the SilkWorm family's next-generation SAN switch technology, the new HP StorageWorks SAN Switch 4/32 provides customers with advanced SAN management capabilities, the industry's highest data transfer rates and full backwards compatibility with the installed base of HP StorageWorks and Brocade SAN infrastructures.
"We're very pleased to partner with HP to bring the new 4 Gbit/sec switch solution to market," said Tom Buiocchi, Vice President of Marketing at Brocade. "Brocade and HP have the largest installed base of SAN ports shipped, and together we are innovators in bringing 4 Gbit/sec technology to market."
The HP StorageWorks SAN Switch 4/32 offers the flexibility of Ports-on-Demand scalability making it an ideal solution for branch offices and departments in enterprises implementing a local or core-to-edge SAN architecture, or as a core switch for mid-sized organizations implementing smaller SANs.
The HP StorageWorks SAN Switch 4/32 is available in configurations of 16, 24, and 32 Fibre Channel ports. Each of the up to 32 ports is auto-sensing for data link speeds of 1, 2, or 4 Gbit/sec, offering full forward and backward compatibility with the more than 1.5 million SAN ports jointly installed by HP and Brocade today.
The HP StorageWorks SAN Switch 4/32 also features redundant and hot-swappable power supplies and cooling fans; hot swappable SFP media; hot code loading and activation; extensive enterprise-level security; fabric management; and ease-of-use features.
"HP and Brocade have a long history of partnering to offer customers best-in-class SAN infrastructure solutions," said Kyle Fitze, director of marketing, Storage Area Networks, HP. "The new HP StorageWorks SAN Switch 4/32 addresses the SAN performance and scalability needs of customers -- from the mid-sized business to the enterprise -- and is a complementary addition to our broad portfolio of StorageWorks SAN array and infrastructure solutions."
Brocade also recently announced that it is working with HP to bring a 4 Gbit/sec SAN switch for the HP BladeSystem to market, and that a Brocade technology switch is used in new HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 1500 SAN Starter Kits.
