Arkansas Offers Online Payment Option to Beat October 10 Personal Property Tax Deadline

State Expects Online Payments to Top 2006’S $12 Million

Paying personal property and real estate taxes is easier than ever, thanks to an online service available to residents of 20 Arkansas counties. Working in conjunction with county tax collectors, the official state Web site (http://www.Arkansas.gov) offers citizens the ability to pay personal property and real estate tax payments online.

Counties offering online Web payments with a credit card (MasterCard, Visa and Discover) or electronic check are Cleburne, Columbia, Craighead, Crittenden, Dallas, Faulkner, Jefferson, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Sebastian, Van Buren and Washington Counties. In addition to online payments, Craighead, Crittenden, Jefferson, Saline, Sebastian and Van Buren counties now accept credit card payments in their county office. Many of these counties also offer a payment option through an automated phone system. The online payments will be accepted until midnight on October 10.

“My desire is to maintain a government office that is on par with businesses in the private sector in both convenience and efficiency,” said Pulaski County Treasurer Debra Buckner. “Offering payment methods online, by phone and in the office helps us accomplish this goal while collecting tax dollars that ultimately support our schools and other county services.”

In 2006, more than $12 million dollars were processed through the online tax portal, and the state expects 2007 payments to top that number. The system is maintained on a secure server and uses the latest encryption technology to ensure privacy, security and data integrity.

To use the online payment services, taxpayers may enter the parcel number provided on their tax statements or can search the database for specific parcels. The property tax system guides the user through a series of entry screens and provides a confirmation and printable receipt page for recordkeeping.
