OCNW News Occam Networks' Dov Zimring Appointed DSL Forum Consul

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Occam Networks® Inc. (NASDAQ:OCNW), a leading supplier of innovative Ethernet and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies, announced today that the DSL Forum has named Dov Zimring, Director of Strategic Technology and Solutions, a DSL Forum Consul. The DSL Forum is a consortium of approximately 200 leading broadband industry players covering telecommunications, equipment, computing, networking and service provider companies.

As a DSL Forum Consul, Zimring is a member of the DSL Forum Ambassador Working Group, which promotes the DSL Forum and provides education on DSL technology and systems to the communications, information and entertainment industries as well as other interested parties. The Ambassador Program is designed to provide broadband subject matter experts for speaking engagements at industry events and other venues.

Zimring will speak for the first time as a DSL Forum Consul at 3:00 PM on March 5 at The Connected Home - IPTV World Forum http://www.iptv-forum.com, being held in London. He joins a panel of experts discussing the importance of the Broadband Gateway and will focus on the importance of the DSL Forum's access-agnostic BroadbandHome initiative for reducing operational costs, enhancing service capabilities and enabling IPTV.

More specifically, Zimring’s presentation will note that standardized capabilities and manageability of the Broadband Gateway are essential to enabling new services with much more stringent Quality of Experience requirements. It enables service providers to reduce the support costs of an ever-increasingly complex home network. Zimring will discuss the BroadbandHome initiative, a component of the BroadbandSuite which encompasses an array of standards from the DSL Forum and other organizations such as the ITU and IEEE that directly impact the role of the Broadband Gateway in the home.

Dov Zimring Helped Pioneer the BLC Category

Zimring joined Occam Networks in 2000 as a Software Engineer helping Occam pioneer the Broadband Loop Carrier product category. Zimring’s expertise with IP Multicast and Multimedia Networking lead him to the field in support of Occam's early Triple Play deployments. In this work, Zimring developed expertise on the breadth of technologies required for IPTV success including but not limited to DSL performance, video encoding, IP Network architectures, proactive service quality management, and most importantly, end-user Quality of Experience. The challenges of DSL interoperability and performance affecting Quality of Experience led Zimring to the University of New Hampshire's Interoperability Labs where he participated in a number of DSL test events and co-authored the new test suite focused on optimizing DSL performance in the presence of dynamic noise and high fill-rates. Zimring has represented Occam at the DSL Forum since 2004, attending quarterly meetings with a focus on Architecture and Transport. He continues to promote the work of the DSL Forum with Service Providers across the U.S. emphasizing the importance of network architectures based on TR-101, remote manageability based on the DSLHome initiatives built on TR-069 and many other Technical Reports produced by the DSL Forum.
