ALU News Alcatel-Lucent Applauds the Federal Communications Commission's Ruling on Local Cable Franchising
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Federal Communications Commission today ruled in favor of local
video franchise regulation reform with an order that local franchising
authorities may not unreasonably refuse to award competitive franchises.
Alcatel-Lucent applauds the Commission for its leadership in recognizing
the need for reform of the video franchise process. This regulatory
reform is key to the deployment of competitive video services and the
next generation of high speed broadband networks.
“This is a victory for both consumers and for
the advancement of next-generation broadband networks across the U.S.,”
said Cindy Christy, Alcatel-Lucent, President North America. “Through
these reforms competitive entrants in the video market can help
accelerate the availability of high speed broadband to consumers and
enterprises across the United States.”
Alcatel-Lucent has been working with the FCC, Congress, and the States
to streamline the entry of competitive video providers and create a
regulatory environment that allows the investment necessary for advanced
broadband technologies. Today’s ruling is
consistent with Alcatel-Lucent’s commitment to
support the removal of regulatory barriers for all service providers,
regardless of platform, to accelerate the deployment of competitive
broadband networks.
Alcatel-Lucent is the global leader in broadband access and is currently
working with several service providers in the U.S. to deploy video
services.
