Kaeser Compressors to Market Air Products' UltraFill(R) 99+ High-Purity Nitrogen Tire Inflation System

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Air Products (NYSE: APD), a global leader in nitrogen technology, and Kaeser Compressors, Inc., a leading innovator of air system technology, announced an agreement for Kaeser to be an authorized reseller of its UltraFill(R) 99+ High-Purity Nitrogen Tire Inflation System to tire and auto service centers across the country. The UltraFill 99+ System delivers the highest purity nitrogen available. Nitrogen inflated tires offer significant performance, cost and safety benefits.

The UltraFill 99+ System is an innovative advancement in nitrogen tire inflation technology. The system allows tire retailers to supply higher purity nitrogen -- in the tire -- in shorter time, which provides inflation performance advantages at a lower cost. In addition, the unit's patent-pending 'Dynamic Surge Capacity' eliminates the need for large storage tanks required by other systems, saving significant workroom space and providing flexibility in unit placement. The system is compact yet delivers the capacity of units far larger, simultaneously supplying nitrogen to multiple bays and tire machines. Additionally, the unique 'UltraFill Experience' training package is available to all participating dealers to enhance the program's understanding and success.

'As a leading expert in compressed air system design, it only made sense to select the nitrogen tire inflation technology with the highest purity and the lowest input air requirements,' commented Harold Wagner, national sales manager for Kaeser. 'Air Products' UltraFill 99+ system is the perfect complement to our compressed air solutions -- offering the latest technology for end-user safety, and the most efficient, money-saving systems for our customers.'

'Working with Kaeser was a natural fit for Air Products' market approach for the sale of our UltraFill product. Kaeser already has an established network in the tire filling market. We are pleased to be working with such a well-established and well-regarded company such as Kaeser,' said Ashok Mathur, business development manager at Air Products.

Nitrogen is a nonflammable and non-corrosive gas that makes up about 78 percent of the air people breathe. It has been used for more than 20 years to inflate tires in applications where optimum performance is demanded, such as race cars and airplanes. Nitrogen is a superior tire inflatant to air because it diffuses through tire rubber about 40 percent slower than air, enabling proper tire pressure to be maintained longer and extending tire life. Optimal tire pressure increases vehicle handling and control. Properly inflated tires maximize steering and braking capability. In cases where a tire runs flat, a spare tire inflated with nitrogen will better retain its pressure for emergency situations.

According to the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA), as many as 85% of motorists do not properly check their vehicles tire inflation pressure. This impacts tire life, fuel mileage and road handling. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that four million gallons of gasoline are lost each day due to low tire pressure.

Air Products has developed leading edge technology for the tire industry for more than 30 years, ranging from the use of high pressure nitrogen to improve the curing of tires in production plants, to the use of cryogenic liquid nitrogen in the grinding and recycling of tire rubber.
