AXL News Gemalto Teams with Citrix Systems and IGEL to Deliver Healthcare Solution
ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CITRIX IFORUM 2006 – Gemalto, a world
leader in digital security, today announced it is teaming up with Citrix
Systems, Inc. and IGEL to deliver highly secure, convenient and fast
access to shared thin client workstations. Gemalto has collaborated with
the two companies to create a new thin client solution that operates in
Citrix Systems environments. Employees use smart card badges to securely
log on and begin or resume work at any IGEL device in seconds. The
companies plan to target healthcare and manufacturing organizations.
“Providing digital security based on smart
card technology for secure logon eliminates the threat of stolen
passwords and data breaches, as no one can log on without his or her
personalized smart card and PIN,” said
Francois Lasnier, vice president and general manager, banking and
security for Gemalto North America.“Thin
clients deliver the greatest benefit in environments where many users
share terminals, like a hospital. Only authorized personnel can access
sensitive healthcare information and patient privacy is protected.”
The solution utilizes Gemalto’s .NET smart
cards, IGEL thin client workstations, Hot Desktop functionality in
Citrix Password Manager™ and SmoothRoaming™
in Citrix Presentation Server™ to deliver
strong, two-factor authentication with “hot
desktop” roaming. The user, at any IGEL
terminal, inserts the Gemalto smart card into the built-in reader and
enters the unique PIN. Using personalized information stored securely on
the smart card, Hot Desktop authenticates the individual to the network
and logs the user onto the server, allowing them access to only the
applications they are authorized to use. At any time, the user can
remove the card from the reader and the session is instantly suspended.
When the user next logs in to any terminal with the smart card,
SmoothRoaming instantly restores the desktop to where the user left it,
so the individual can continue working, enhancing productivity as the
rounds or clinic visits are performed.
“This is exactly what the healthcare industry
has been asking for - something that is fast, convenient and secure,”
said John Prestridge, director of healthcare, Citrix Systems, Inc. “Healthcare
providers get improved satisfaction and productivity from caregivers,
more convenience for all systems users and, using Gemalto solutions, the
security and accountability regulatory authorities are demanding with
the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).”
