FCL News Foundation Coal Announces Two Key Staff Appointments For Business Development
LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Foundation Coal Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:FCL) announced the expansion of its
core Business Development group with two appointments, effective January
1, 2007. Brian L. Miller will assume the role of vice president business
development, and Jeffrey D. Mueller will serve as manager business
development. Miller will report to James A. Olsen, senior vice president
of development and information technology and Mueller will report to
Miller.
In his new role, Miller will be responsible for determining the
potential and feasibility of investment opportunities regarding
acquisitions, new ventures, investments in properties and technologies,
and other corporate development initiatives. He will play an integral
part in identifying and implementing company growth strategies.
According to Miller, “I am excited about the
opportunity to use my financial and strategic background in the mining
and energy industries to make a significant contribution to Foundation
Coal’s growth program. Although relatively
young as a public entity, Foundation has successfully demonstrated the
ability to leverage its operational strengths in conjunction with a

initiatives in coal and coal-related technologies.”
An industry veteran with 20 years of experience, Miller is transitioning
from his prior role as a consultant to Foundation Coal since June 2006.
Prior to this he held the position of vice president of finance and
acquisitions for DTE Coal Services located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prior
to that he worked as Director of Business Development for Cyprus Amax
Minerals Company and Cyprus Amax Coal Company and worked in various
capacities in business development, planning and finance for The
Pittston Company. Miller earned an MBA in Finance and Accounting from
Columbia University, a Master of Public Policy degree from the
University of California and received a Bachelors degree from Columbia
College in Urban Studies/Political Science.
Mueller’s new position will focus on the
implementation of overall business development initiatives while
providing a full breadth of expertise in engineering and operational
assessments.
Mueller has amassed 31 years of mining engineering experience. Most
recently he served at Foundation Coal affiliate, Warrick Holding Company
as manager operations, idle properties conducting oversight for the
final reclamation and property development related to the former
Ayrshire and Delta mines. He joined Amax Coal Company in 1976 as a
resident engineer in training and worked in various engineering
positions within the company at locations in Indiana and Illinois.
Mueller earned an MBA in Operations Management from Indiana University’s
Indianapolis campus and holds a Bachelors of Science in Civil
Engineering from the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.
