GVT News Morgan Stanley Government Income Trust Announces Approval of Merger into Morgan Stanley U.S. Government Securities Trust
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Morgan Stanley Government Income Trust (NYSE: GVT) (the “Fund”) announced today that its shareholders approved the merger of the Fund into Morgan Stanley U.S. Government Securities Trust, a diversified, open-end management investment company advised by the Fund’s investment adviser, Morgan Stanley Investment Advisors Inc. The merger was approved at a Special Meeting of Shareholders of the Fund on March 6, 2007.
As a result of the merger, shareholders of the Fund will receive Class D shares of Morgan Stanley U.S. Government Securities Trust with a value equal to the net asset value of their holdings in the Fund on the merger valuation date, which is expected to occur on or about March 23, 2007. The transaction is currently expected to close on or about March 26, 2007, subject to the satisfaction of certain conditions.
In addition, the Fund is cancelling a dividend previously declared on December 26, 2006, and payable on March 23, 2007 to the Fund’s shareholders of record as of March 9, 2007. Instead, in connection with the merger, a final distribution will be paid on or about March 23, 2007, to the Fund’s shareholders of record as of March 22, 2007.
