UPS News Two UPS Freight Drivers Named to America's Road Team
RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Emblematic of the nation’s top professional
drivers, UPS Freight’s Clarence S. Jenkins Jr.
and Jose “Manny”
Franco have been chosen to serve on the America’s
Road Team of the American Trucking Associations’
(ATA).
Jenkins, a road driver based with UPS Freight’s
Charleston, W.Va., Service Center for more than 30 years, is a former
National Truck Driving Champion who has garnered 10 first place finishes
in state competition. He also is a five-time winner of the West Virginia
Outstanding Driver Award and in 1988 was the recipient of the
Distinguished West Virginia Award.
Franco, a local driver based in Phoenix, Ariz., whose driving record
includes 15 years of accident-free service, is a current Arizona State
Truck Driving Champion. He has won the state title twice in the past
five years.
As members or Captains of the ATA Road Team, Jenkins and Franco will
spend the next two years representing the trucking industry and
promoting highway safety. They will work to educate the public,
government agencies, other drivers, corporate safety officials and the
media about the trucking industry and its commitment to safe highway
driving.
Selected from the an original pool of more than 3,000 qualified drivers,
16 new Road Team Captains were named this week in Washington, D.C., by a
panel of judges from the trucking industry and media. The competition
among 35 finalists included a test on their knowledge of safety issues,
communications skills and community service involvement. All are
million-mile, accident-free drivers.
“Only the most honored and accomplished
drivers are considered for a spot on America’s
Road Team, the highest honor the industry can bestow on a professional
truck driver,” noted UPS Freight President
Gordon Mackenzie. “They are a credit to their
profession and the industry and we are proud to have Clarence and Jose
