Cirond Corporation Warns about WiPhishing Threat at InfoSec World 2005 Conference & Expo, April 4-5
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 4, 2005--Cirond Corporation (OTCBB:CROO), a global provider of network security solutions that protect against the security threats resulting from wireless technology, today delivered a warning about a security threat that could have a disastrous impact on the security of data on wireless laptops and the wired and wireless corporate and government networks to which they are connected. The warning came in a presentation by Cirond Corporation CEO Nicholas Miller at the InfoSec World 2005 Conference and Expo, April 4-5, 2005 at Disney's Coronado Springs in Orlando, Florida.
Mr. Miller, who recently coined the term "WiPhishing" to describe this threat, which is faced by the more than 100 million wireless laptops in use worldwide, explained the new and growing security risks facing users of wireless-equipped laptop computers and the organizations whose employees use these devices. In his presentation, Mr. Miller reviewed a new and innovative range of solutions recently introduced by Cirond to deal with this and other wireless-related threats.
"Whenever a laptop's wireless adapter is left on, wireless hackers can potentially access data on that laptop and introduce worms, trojan horses and viruses to the laptop. Similarly, whenever a wireless laptop is connected to a wired network and the wireless adapter is left on, the wireless laptop can open a portal into the wired network that can enable a WiPhishing attack through the wireless laptop to the entire network," stated Mr. Miller. "The widespread and largely uncontrolled use of wireless technology by employees can effectively reduce the security of corporate data and networks to the same level of security as an employees' home network, which in many cases is no security at all. We have recently introduced technologies that put corporate network administrators back in the driver's seat, and enable them to control how and when wireless technology is used by employees so as to ensure that wireless technology is not used in a manner that can compromise the security of corporate data and networks."
