CYDY News CytoDyn Invited to Present at XVI World AIDS Conference

SANTA FE, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 4, 2006--CytoDyn, Inc. (OTCBB:CYDY) has been invited to present clinical results from Cytolin(R) at the Treatment Horizons Forum of The AIDS Institute to be held on August 12, 2006 in conjunction with the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto. "CytoDyn will show how its targeted immune therapy reduces viral activity while avoiding the emergence of drug-resistant strains of HIV," according to Allen D. Allen, the Company's CEO. The need to continually produce new anti-microbial agents to compensate for the emergence of drug resistant strains of HIV will ultimately be limited by resources, infrastructure, and toxicity, Allen believes.

Dr. Glenn Morrison, Director of Clinical Development and Regulatory Affairs for Symbion Research International, Inc., CytoDyn's CRO, will present Phase I/II data demonstrating the antiviral effects and absence of liver toxicity in individuals who have failed Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) after Cytolin(R) was used to protect CD4+ T lymphocytes from the anti-self, anti-CD4 cytotoxic T lymphocytes that proliferate uniquely in humans infected with HIV. CytoDyn has been developing this targeted immune therapy since 1997. The underlying science was first published in the peer-review journals during the early 1990s.

"Millions of people around the world are desperate for the successful clinical development of a commercially available immune-based therapy for the emerging crisis of drug-resistant HIV. Cytolin(R) is one of the very few promising candidates in advance stage clinical development that shows clinical promise to address this urgent need globally," said David Miller, Board Member of the AIDS Institute and long time AIDS treatment activist. "An immune therapy that suppresses drug resistant HIV could extend the useful lives of the antiretroviral drugs that people with AIDS have been depending upon, such as recent additions to the armamentarium by Gilead (Nasdaq: GILD)," Miller added.

About HIV/AIDS

HIV, the virus that leads to acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), remains a global epidemic. World health officials estimate 39 million people are now infected with HIV. Some three million people died of AIDS last year, worldwide, and millions more are expected to die from AIDS this year (source www.aegis.com). With the rate of infection accelerating in many parts of the world, the search for an effective immune-based therapy for HIV is one of the highest public health priorities, according to Miller.
