BMSR News DIRT MotorSports to Unveil State-of-the-Art Mobile Media Center for World of Outlaws Sprint Series 2006 Season
NORMAN, Okla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2005--When the checkered flag waves on a DIRT MotorSports(TM) (DIRT) (OTCBB:BMSR) World of Outlaws Sprint Series(R) event, it marks the conclusion of a hard day's work for many people involved in bringing fans a race.
But the end of the event is only the beginning of a long night for many others. Crews are busy preparing their cars for the next race while drivers are signing autographs and greeting fans. At the same time, a group of reporters and photographers are scurrying through the pits trying to do their jobs as editors nervously sit in an office watching the clock with presses poised to roll and the nightly news already under way.
To assist those media members who work so hard to bring World of Outlaws racing to their readers and viewers, DIRT MotorSports will unveil for the 2006 World of Outlaws Sprint Series season a state-of-the-art Mobile Media Center, complete with a Ground Control Systems high-speed Magellan MSS Mobile Satellite Internet System and wireless hot spot, video and timing monitors linked with DIRTvision.com(TM) and AMB i.t. timing systems, DirecTV access, and most importantly a consistent place for the media to work and transmit their stories, photos and video no matter where the series is competing.
Set to be stationed in the pit area at most venues, the inside of the Mobile Media Center will be limited to those reporters, photographers and editors working on deadline. However, it also will have a strong signal to provide Internet access to the pits and press box. Additional monitors attached to the Mobile Media Center will be positioned in such a way to provide those who gather around it with video and timing, too.
The Mobile Media Center also will be equipped with a public address system. Among its many uses will be to serve as a location for media conferences, post-race interviews, drivers' meetings and special programming segments with The Outdoor Channel.
"When reporters cover an event at a major facility, a media center is something that's expected," said Chris Dolack, DIRT MotorSports VP of Public Relations. "But many dirt tracks have never been set-up to provide the type of technology that is now available for writers and photographers. The idea with the Mobile Media Center is to bring that technology in a self-contained unit on the road with the series to help the media do its job and keep the fans informed in a timely fashion.
"There is a level of frustration that develops when you can't finish your job because phone lines are tied up or access to the pits makes it difficult to get back and forth to the press box or the scorers' booth. In the past, if a race was running long and a writer needs to file a report to make deadline, it was very difficult to accomplish that task and still keep up with what's happening on the track. This is intended to make that task as easy as we can possibly make it.
"On a personal level, seeing this Mobile Media Center come to fruition is the realization of a lot of wishful thinking by those of us who have tried to make deadline or had the lights turned out on us while filing stories after a night of racing. It's something many of us scratched on notepads saying, 'What if ... ?' I can't thank Brian Dunlap in DIRT Media Productions enough for all the legwork and research into finding the best satellite system and wireless network for our purposes. And as excited as I am about the Mobile Media Center, it was just as exciting to see the reactions of our CEO Paul Kruger and CFO Brian Carter when everything was presented to them. Their support of this project was obviously critical and having it become a reality shows their commitment to helping the media cover our events."
Given the number of tasks the Mobile Media Center is expected to handle throughout the season it no doubt will become a focal point and gathering place in the pits. Still, through all the planning and ordering of equipment, its fundamental purpose of providing media working on deadline a place to do their jobs remains its highest priority. That's why DIRT MotorSports and the World of Outlaws encourage the media to take advantage of this new option and technology when covering Outlaws events in 2006.
