EXBY News Exabyte Magnum 224 LTO Tape Library Now Shipping with Native Fibre Channel; First Entry-Level, Expandable Capacity LTO Library to Offer FC
BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 2006--Exabyte Corp. (OTCBB:EXBY), the leading innovator in tape backup and recovery systems, today announced the Magnum 224 LTO(TM) (Ultrium(TM)) Tape Library is now available with a native Fibre Channel (FC) interface. The Magnum 224 delivers an unprecedented combination of plug-and-play backup simplicity and capacity-on-demand scalability in a compact and extremely affordable package loaded with high-end features.
Developed expressly for SMB/departmental organizations, the Magnum 224 LTO Tape Library is available for $7850 (estimated U.S. street price) with a single native FC LTO-3 drive and one 12-cartridge magazine that delivers speeds of 576 GB/hour(a) and total capacity of 9.6 TB(a) in a compact, 2U rackmount enclosure. Users may purchase and install a second 12-cartridge magazine for $350 (estimated U.S. street price) bringing total cartridge capacity to 24 cartridges and total data storage capacity to 19.2 TB(a). The Magnum 448 eliminates the need for and associated costs of a Fibre Channel interface to the automation controller by using a feature built into the LTO tape drives called Automation/Drive Interface (ADI).
"Our LTO libraries have proven that the small to midsized business market and departments within larger environments are best served with high-performance automation. By providing Fibre Channel at an SMB-affordable price, with an easy out-of-the-box experience, Exabyte helps protect the customer's storage investment with true enterprise-class reliability and performance," said Exabyte president Tom Ward.
The Exabyte Magnum 224 delivers a complete list of important features as well as user-friendly installation and configuration. Each library comes standard with a barcode scanner, Ethernet-based remote management, a single Import/Export media drawer, and a rack mount kit. Other library vendors may charge hundreds or thousands of dollars extra for these key library components.
