GLOI News GlobalOptions Group Receives Major Emergency Preparedness Contract with George Mason University
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GlobalOptions Group, Inc. (OTCBB: GLOI), a leading provider of domestic and international risk management services, today announced that its James Lee Witt Associates unit has been chosen by George Mason University to prepare a comprehensive plan for disaster mitigation and business continuity.
Prior to this contract being awarded, George Mason University was provided a Disaster Resistant University grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Program. The university, with four campuses in northern Virginia including one just a mile from the Pentagon, recognized its need to better prepare for all types of disasters. Over the past five years the school has dealt firsthand with responses to the September 11th terrorist attacks, Hurricane Isabel, and a number of power outages and floods.
“We realized a need to be able to maintain our critical operations in a disaster,” said Keith Bushey, Chief Safety Officer and Assistant Vice President at the university. “We felt that it was important to call upon the best in the field of emergency management to help us develop a hazard mitigation plan and business impact analysis in order to protect the lives and property of our students, staff, faculty and visitors.”
George Mason University called upon GlobalOptions to perform a business impact analysis, conduct a hazard vulnerability assessment, and create a hazard mitigation plan, which will be submitted to FEMA for approval. The company is working with the university to examine critical functions and disaster vulnerabilities. After an initial assessment, GlobalOptions will develop strategies to minimize risks to the university as well as recommend business continuity activities designed to maintain critical business operations and improve recovery times after a large-scale disaster.
“I am confident that with the help of GlobalOptions, we will be better prepared for any type of emergency in the future,” Bushey concluded.
