Independent Five Hundred Plus Pharmacy Chain Initiates Program with Med-eMonitor “Smart Pillbox”
InforMedix Holdings, Inc. (OTCBB: IFMX, http://www.informedix.com/), developer of the Med-eMonitor™ System for medication adherence and health management, has signed a distribution agreement with American Pharmacies, a co-op of more than five hundred pharmacies owned by Independent Pharmacies, and based in San Antonio, Texas. According to the terms of the agreement, American Pharmacies will initially market and sell the Med-eMonitor™ System in three of its affiliated pharmacies as an initial step toward potentially expanding its distribution to other member pharmacies pending the results of the trial run.
InforMedix’s Med-eMonitor System is an interactive “smart pillbox” for monitored medication adherence. In addition to storing medications, providing reminders regarding when and how to safely take each medication, and tracking patient adherence to their medications and their health status, the Med-eMonitor provides caregivers and loved ones with real-time alerts when patients miss their meds or their health declines. The American Society on Aging and American Society of Consultant Pharmacists Foundation estimate that medication non-adherence causes 125,000 unnecessary deaths per year (http://www.adultmeducation.com/), resulting in a three hundred billion dollar healthcare problem. The device is expected to be especially helpful for members of the “sandwich generation,” baby boomers negotiating the responsibilities of caring for elderly parents while raising young children.
American Pharmacies is a for-profit, member-owned pharmacy buying group operating in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. A true independent pharmacy cooperative, American Pharmacies leverages the combined strength of its membership to deliver economies-of-scale purchasing power from pharmacy wholesalers; impact relevant political, legislative, and regulatory issues; increase member profitability; and inform and educate members on relevant state and federal legislative and regulatory issues.
“We are very excited to work with InforMedix toward making the Med-eMonitor a success,” says Mike Gohlke, President of American Pharmacies. “This device can make a real difference in the lives of people on multiple medications and their loved ones, and we’re privileged to be the first pharmacy group to have it available to our customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.”
American Pharmacies will initially offer the Med-eMonitor to customers at the following three Texas locations: De la Rosa Pharmacy and Medical Equipment in Weslaco, Carvajal Pharmacy in San Antonio, and Flower Mound Pharmacy in Flower Mound.
“We are delighted to have reached this agreement with American Pharmacies, one of the leading entrepreneurial independent pharmacy cooperatives in the country,” said Bruce A. Kehr, MD, CEO of InforMedix. “We feel this important partnership reflects the high levels of interest in the Med-eMonitor from independent and regional chain pharmacies. We believe the Med-eMonitor unit will help drive member pharmacy profitability by attracting new customers to their stores and enhancing the loyalty of existing customers, while also empowering these customers to take better care of themselves and their loved ones by making ‘Medication, Safe and Easy.’”
