IOPM News IntraOp Medical Corporation Delivers Mobetron to Leading Cancer Center in The Netherlands
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--IntraOp Medical Corporation (OTCBB: IOPM), a provider of
innovative technology solutions for the treatment and eradication of
cancer, today announced that it has delivered a Mobetron®
to the MCH Westeinde Hospital in The Hague. MCH is one of the major
cancer centers in The Netherlands and treats more than 2000 patients
each year. The Mobetron system is designed exclusively for
intraoperative electron radiation therapy (IOERT), which is the direct
application of radiation to a tumor while a patient is undergoing cancer
surgery. This will be only the second IOERT system in The Netherlands.
Medical Center Haaglanden (MCH) is the second Dutch Hospital to take
delivery of a Mobetron. Dr. Joost van der Sijp, the oncology surgeon,
and Professor Doctor Henk Struikmans, the radiation oncologist, are
responsible for developing the IOERT program at MCH. They state: “We
are looking forward to getting our Mobetron in clinical operation. In
addition to using IOERT for rectal cancer, we plan to use it for breast
conserving therapy in early stage breast cancer patients.”
“It is a privilege to be working with an
institution like MCH,” said Donald A. Goer,
President and Chief Executive Officer of IntraOp. “MCH
has a strong commitment to integrate IOERT into their cancer program. It
is centers like MCH that make a real difference in the lives of the
patients they treat.”
With Mobetron, radiation and surgical oncologists can pinpoint the exact
area that requires radiation and immediately deliver high doses directly
to the affected tissue during cancer surgery. Hospitals can wheel
Mobetron between existing operating rooms without the costly renovations
required to accommodate traditional radiation therapy devices. Key
patient benefits of this early and powerful start to radiation therapy
include: increased survival rates, better local tumor control, shorter
treatment cycles, and fewer side effects.

going to be purchased with private funds from an investment group, but
the Health Care Institutions subsequently agreed to financially support
this initiative.
