Integrated Security Systems, Inc. Announces B&B Roadway Soft Stop Barrier

Integrated Security Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:IZZI) today announced that B&B Roadway, a majority-owned joint venture partner of its wholly owned subsidiary B&B ARMR, has successfully completed United Sates Department of Transportation (USDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHA) testing of a new, energy-absorbing, movable barrier system.

The tests, performed under the auspices of the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI), were conducted on a prototype barrier system that utilizes a new, patent pending, energy absorption system to stop vehicles without causing serious injury or death to the occupants. The barrier system is designed to bring a vehicle to a stop by allowing speed to be dissipated without abrupt deceleration, while maintaining full control of the vehicle’s movement, or even directing the movement. The system represents a major advance in the science of protecting lives on our nation’s roadways. The company stated that it has already begun to receive numerous inquiries and requests for specifications to be written into upcoming road & bridge projects from various departments of transportation throughout the nation. The TTI tests represented the final hurdle for broader acceptance of the system by the states. In the test, two vehicles representing the two sides of the “average” vehicle size for highways were crashed against the barrier at 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour). In these tests, the vehicles were brought to a stop in a carefully controlled manner. In both cases, the occupants of the vehicles would have experienced “G” forces of less than 5, which was not enough to trigger air bags. To put it in perspective, a human sneezing results in a “G” force of about 2.5.

Lynn Causey, President of B&B Roadway, commented, “We were extremely gratified with the results of the tests and to see all our engineering efforts validated. This is an exciting new development in highway safety.”

The potential marketplace for the new barrier system is enormous. In addition to road and bridge applications, there are other applications where it is desirable to bring a speeding vehicle to a stop in a closely controlled manner, such as border control applications and law enforcement situations. The barrier technology is flexible and can be adapted to a broad range of formats and applications.
