Garb Oil & Power Corp. Taps Lou Zant as Its New President and CEO
SALT LAKE CITY, June 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Garb Oil & Power Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board:GARB) today announced that Lou Zant, a seasoned telecommunications and business executive, has been selected as its president and chief executive officer. Zant replaces company founder, John C. Brewer, who will remain as Garb's chairman.
"Lou is a great choice for driving Garb to the next level of success," Brewer said. "His expertise in international markets, in driving significant growth, in identifying and exploiting market opportunities are skills needed by the company and should definitely benefit Garb and its shareholders."
During a career spanning more than 30 years, Zant (53) has played a significant role in creating and growing shareholder value, as an entrepreneur and an executive. For example, in the early 1970s, Zant was the visionary behind the patchwork jeans craze which led to the formation of Brittania Jeans Co. where sales grew to more than $900 million. After leaving Brittania, Zant began marketing the creations of a then little-known designer named Calvin Klein. Within the first few years of his marketing efforts and with sales for Klein reaching $450 million, Zant was tapped as director of the Calvin Klein Men's Division.
In the 1980s, Zant switched directions, joining Heller Securities where he rose to senior vice president before leaving the firm in 1986 to try his hand as an entrepreneur running holistic medicine schools. By the time he sold this venture in 1990, he had grown this enterprise to five locations, making it the second largest such organization in the United States.
Zant next co-founded Quorum International, a network marketing organization specializing in consumer electronics and security products. Within 21 months, Quorum had built a distribution channel of more than 240,000 independent distributors based in 12 countries and generating $21 million in sales per month. As a result of his outstanding business successes, Zant was commissioned in 1994 by the United Nations to serve as director of Corporate Mobilization over Telecommunications, a position he held for two years.
"My time at the U.N. was invaluable as it gave me tremendous insights into the potential of the global economy and the role globalization would play in shaping U.S. business," Zant said.
Calling upon his experiences from Quorum and the U.N., Zant founded his first technology company in 1996 -- Net Touch Communications (sometimes known as N'Touch) -- a company he sold two years later to Total World Telecom. In 1998, he founded GoSolutions, a provider of enhanced telecommunications services, a company that survived the DotCom crash and in which Zant is still a major shareholder.
"I've done and seen a lot of things in my day, with ventures that have taken me around the world," Zant said. "I feel Garb has great possibilities and potential with its recycling technologies and far-flung business opportunities. I look forward to working with the Garb team to unlock the company's potential to the fullest extent possible."
Zant received a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss.
