SHLP News SearchHelp Rolls-out Latest Update to ``Sentry At Home(TM)'' to Include Monitoring of MySpace(TM) Chat
SYOSSET, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SearchHelp, Inc., (OTCBB: SHLP), a developer of award-winning, web-based
parental control software, today announced that, beginning this week, it
will provide an important update to all users of its “Sentry
At Home” Internet content filtering and
blocking software.
This update features several timely enhancements including the ability
to monitor and block MySpace Chat, where young people have been signing
up by the millions. MySpace.com and other social networking sites have
become a hangout for kids, criminals and even sexual predators. The
addition significantly broadens “Sentry At Home’s”
chat and messaging applications that are actively logged and reported to
parents. Existing customers and purchasers of the product at leading
regional and national retailers -- CompUSA, OfficeMax, TigerDirect,
Duane Reade, Fry’s Electronics, Meijer stores,
Micro Center or online at Kmart.com and HSN.com -- will automatically
receive the update.
With children spending increasing amounts of time online, protecting
them is emerging as a major national concern. Membership on social
networking sites is booming around the country. MySpace says its popular
site now attracts 54 million visitors very month. According to studies
by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, one in seven
10-to-17-year-olds using the Internet has received some kind of a sexual
invitation. Other key data:
45% of children in the United States — more
than 30 million of them younger than 18 —
use the Internet. The majority of which, use it alone and unsupervised.
71% of teens report receiving messages online from someone they don't
know.
45% have been asked for personal information by someone they don't
know.
Bill Bozsnyak, CEO of SearchHelp, Inc., commented: “SearchHelp
is committed to providing parents with the most comprehensive,
easy-to-use parental control products currently available. Parents today
need to understand that the risks to young people have dramatically
increased. It has become clear that the onus of protecting one’s
child online lies with the parent and not the instant messaging or chat
provider. They must know what their children are doing online and to
whom they are talking. Armed with this knowledge, parents can then
engage them in constructive dialog about the dangers and potential
threats from their online activity."
SearchHelp’s award-winning “Sentry”
line of security software provides real-time alerts and information,
allowing parents to pro-actively monitor their children’s
online activities wherever those parents happen to be –
at work, shopping, traveling, etc. This is a critical advance over more
traditional passive “block-and-filter”
computer technology that merely limits a child’s
exposure to objectionable content including pornography.
“Sentry At Home”
uses proprietary SmartAgent Technology. When installed on the child’s
computer, it allows parents to control, view, and set-up preferences
from any other computer, anywhere in the world. There is no need to
revisit a child’s computer once a parent
installs the software.
