New Line Entertainment said the following about "Popstar's" star, Aaron Carter: "Aaron Carter is one of the world's hottest and most sought after teen talents, catering to his loyal fan base with his trademark charisma and popular performances on both stage and screen. He is the youngest male solo artist to have four Top 40 hits and has sold more than five million albums and one million singles worldwide. Additionally, Carter has been featured in numerous films including 'Fat Albert,' 'The Princess Diaries' and on TV's '7th Heaven.'"
In the spirit of art imitating life, the film stars real-life international pop sensation Aaron Carter ("Supercross: The Movie," "The Even Stevens Movie," "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius," "The Princess Diaries"). Having successfully built a music career spanning over a decade, with over 5 million albums and 1 million singles sold worldwide, "Popstar" is Aaron Carter's first starring role in a motion picture. "I was definitely nervous starting out but the cast and crew made me feel very comfortable and at home."
The film also stars Alana Austin ("Hansel & Gretel," "Moto X Kids," "Miracle Dogs," "Motocrossed," "Sister, Sister" - Disney Channel), Kimberly Kevon Williams ("Phil of the Future" - Disney Channel, "Joan of Arcadia," "Boston Public"), David Cassidy ("The Partridge Family," "VH1's 8-Track Flashback," "The Spirit of '76"), Leif Garrett ("Suddenly Susan," "The Outsiders," "Longshot," "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," "VH1 Behind The Music") and Rick Overton ("Edtv," "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Groundhog Day," "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures"). The film was directed by Richard Gabai and produced by Steve Austin.
"Popstar" highlights the incredible life and adventure of being internationally renowned teen and recording artist JD McQueen. But JD has a big problem. Despite numerous private teachers, JD's scholastic test scores are miserable. His parents send him back to public school with an ultimatum; pass high school or no summer tour with the band. The entire student body of Boone High School in Orlando, Florida freak out upon JD's arrival. Girls follow him around, boys are jealous of him, and someone keeps stealing everything he touches, even his entire locker! On his first day of School, JD walks into Jane's class and sits down right next to her! When the face that adorns ten teen-targeted magazines a week sits down next to you, you're not star struck, you're star clobbered. When JD's plan to cheat on the mid-term fails, his entire grade rests on the final exam. He also learns that there's more at stake. If JD cannot tour, the record label intends to replace him in the band. To top it all, when Jane reads in "Teen People" magazine that JD is seriously involved with another young celebrity, she feels misled and breaks things off.
