United States Antimony (OTCBB:UAMY) reports that there is major interest in the use of its Bear River Zeolite ("BRZ" is a wholly owned subsidiary of United States Antimony Corporation) product as a filter media to replace sand, sand and anthracite, and multi-media in swimming pool, drinking water, waste water, industrial water, storm-water, and in reverse osmosis filtration plants. The Company further reported that sales of zeolite reached a record for the first quarter of 2005 compared to other first quarters in previous years.
Unlike sand where the water must go around the particle, the water actually goes through the micro-channel-ways in the zeolite particle. This provides several distinct advantages. First, the zeolite media allows more than double the throughput of sand and anthracite. This would allow a municipal drinking water plant to increase their capacity by replacing their filter media with zeolite and would not require a capital-intensive plant expansion. Secondly, the clarity of the water is greatly improved using zeolite, because the zeolite will filter out particles less than 5 microns in size as opposed to other media that only filter down to 15 microns. Third, due to the zeolite's huge surface area, it is able to hold many more particulates. This reduces the frequency of the backwash cycles and also the volume of water used to backwash. This substantially reduces the operating costs.
First quarter 2005 BRZ zeolite sales were a record compared to other first quarters. March sales also hit a record for any one-month of 1,865 tons.
