PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ViewCast Corporation (OTCBB:VCST), a leading global provider of high-quality audio and video communication products, today announced that Gem Shopping Network™, based in Duluth, Ga., is using the Niagara® PowerStream for real-time encoding of its television broadcasts. The PowerStream provides Gem Shopping Network with high-bandwidth video and audio content for live program broadcasts over the Internet.
“We selected the Niagara PowerStream to support our live Web feed because it offers stability, speed, and simplicity at a very attractive price point,” said LA Ricketson, general manager for Gem Shopping Network. “The ViewCast encoder offered clear savings over competing solutions, and since we began using it about six months ago, it has given us steady, smooth performance.”
The PowerStream is a complete streaming media encoder designed to deliver reliable and affordable plug-and-play operation. The 2-U rack-mount system features a robust, appliance-like design to bring greater convenience and reliability to the management and distribution of video content. The encoder is ideal for live Webcasting applications, but Gem Shopping Network can also leverage the system to perform interactive capture and encoding.
Administrators at the TV network can monitor, manage, and control the encoder remotely via any IP-networked PC device using the included Niagara SCX encoder manager software. Video is captured and streamed via two built-in 1-GHz TCP/IP network ports. Niagara PowerStream supports video capture into AVI, Flash, RealVideo®, and Windows Media® formats, and gives Gem Shopping Network the flexibility to create and stream multiple video sessions from a single system.
