XNOM News Xenomics' Research Partner to Make Special Presentation of Clinical Data at Prestigious World Conference on Lung Health; Leading International Health Organization Recognizes Breakthrough Potential of Xenomics Proprietary Transrenal-DNA Platform

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 2005--Xenomics, Inc. (OTCBB:XNOM), a developer of next-generation medical DNA technologies, and its partner, Spaxen Italia, SRL, have been selected to present important new clinical evidence about the performance of its novel, noninvasive method for detection of tuberculosis (TB) at a prestigious conference in mid-October, the 36th Annual World Conference on Lung Health, organized by the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, to be held October 18 - 22, in Paris, France. The event is one of the international medical community's most important forums for the presentation of health and medical research.

Scientists from Xenomics' research partner Spaxen Italia will make the oral presentation at the conference. In collaboration with Xenomics' scientists, the Spaxen researchers in Rome, Italy, directed the clinical evaluation of Xenomics' proprietary Transrenal-DNA (Tr-DNA) diagnostic technology in the detection of TB. The findings in this study will be presented on October 21, in their research paper entitled "Detection of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Transrenal DNA from Urine Samples of Patients with Pulmonary TB."

The presentation will be among a small number selected for a "Late Breaker Session," created especially to permit the presentation of very recent and particularly important research findings to the conference attendees.

The session is being co-chaired by respected officials of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA, Dr. Elsa Villarino and Dr. Michael F. Iademarco. Dr. Iademarco is Associate Director of Tuberculosis Elimination at CDC. The presentation will be made by Dr. Delia Goletti, an internationally recognized physician who supervised the clinical TB study under the direction of Spaxen Italia, SRL. Xenomics scientists, Dr. Samuil Umansky, Xenomics' President and Chief Scientific Officer, and Dr. Hovsep Melkonyan, Vice President, Research, collaborated on the study and are co-authors of the research paper.

The TB detection method, based on Xenomics' proprietary Transrenal-DNA (Tr-DNA) testing technology platform, is the focus of recent clinical studies at Spaxen and the National Institute for Infectious Diseases "Lazzaro Spallanzani" in Rome, Italy, a strategic development partner of Xenomics.

In a brief preview of the technical presentation, Dr. Tomei noted, "We studied 20 HIV-negative patients with culture confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). No patient exhibited clinical evidence of infection outside of the lungs, and all urine cultures for TB were negative. At the same time genetic markers of TB were detected in Tr-DNA obtained from the urine of all patients with active tuberculosis. All controls from healthy donors were negative. Also, urine specimens were obtained very early and again after two months of successful anti-TB therapy. Following therapy, all patients were found to be negative using the Tr-DNA test. Using highly specific and sensitive Tr-DNA technology, we feel that we now understand much better why others have not discovered the presence of free TB DNA in urine of pulmonary TB patients, which is a big step forward in the effort to create a more useful way to diagnose TB. The results were exceptional."

Tr-DNA technology is also in development by Xenomics for additional applications including prenatal genetic testing, tumor detection, and detection of HIV pro-viral DNA.
