China Education Resources Inc. Announces Management Change and Corporate Growth Initiatives
China Education Resources Inc. ("CER", the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:
CHN)(PINK SHEETS: CHNUF) announced today management changes to focus on
its growth strategy, reduce costs and create future opportunities.
Mr. Ron Shon, President of CER, has informed the board of directors
of his resignation as President, effective immediately. Mr. Shon will
remain on the board of directors. "I have enjoyed working with this
great enterprise, but must devote my talents to pursue other
endeavors," said Mr. Shon, "I will remain close to CER in my director's
role and expect to see great growth in the near future."
"We reluctantly accepted Ron's resignation and thank him for many
years of hard work," said CER Chairman and chief executive officer
Chengfeng Zhou, "At the same time; we have great expectations to take
advantage of our developing education opportunities with China and
North America."
The Company's growth strategy now includes opening up U.S. - Sino
education opportunities, which it began last year with California State
University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) Extended Education and International
Programs (EEIP). The first initiative is provide a CSUMB/EEIP sponsored
English language program to China through its CERSP portal and through
China Telecom's portal. The second initiative is to work with
CSUMB/EEIP to bring Mandarin language instruction from China to schools
throughout the U.S.
Zhou continued, "By developing our relationship with CSUMB we are
focused on taking advantage of their tremendous resources in the form
of faculty and professional practitioners. CSUMB/EEIP's capabilities
are a perfect match for us; we are delighted to collaborate with them
and, through them, with other top flight U.S. educational institutions.
Together we expect to strengthen the development of our K-12 education
initiatives in China and tap the North American market for targeted
education services, such as teaching Chinese Mandarin."
Monterey is The Language Capital of the World, a title conferred by
then California Governor Pete Wilson in recognition of the incredibly
rich collection of resources in the Monterey region that are involved
with language teaching, learning, use, and policy development. This
explains why CER selected CSUMB as its primary language partner versus
any of the other 22 campuses in the CSU system. The greater Monterey
area is directly involved with 25 percent of the nation's
post-secondary learning in languages other than English and plays a
major role in delivering translation and interpretation services around
the globe. The designation of Monterey as The Language Capital of the
World also reflects its deep historical, multilingual and multicultural
heritage.
Zhou concluded, "Our agreements with CSUMB/EEIP and China's number
one telecom company (China Telecom) gives us several unique
differentiators that provides CER with capabilities no one else in the
education sector possesses. These agreements provide us with greater
education content and service capabilities and a much larger
distribution capability." In January 2008, CER signed an agreement with
China Telecom to access over 30 million broadband users with its
proprietary and licensed education products and services, including
English as a Second Language (ESL) training, tutoring services, digital
textbooks, digital supplemental education material and more.
In collaboration with China's Ministry of Education Curriculum
Development Center, China Education Resources Inc., (CER), is helping
to transform the curriculum of the world's largest educational system.
Recognizing the need for centralization and increased accessibility to
address the Chinese Central government's 2000 education reform policy
changes, China Education Resource Inc. has created educational tools
and curricula for China's entire kindergarten through twelfth grade
system. By implementing the government's goal of converting the
existing educational system from memory-based learning to creative
thinking and utilizing a more interactive approach to embrace a
world-based economy, CER has played an integral part in positioning
China's educational system to reach new heights.
