ORCL News Pillar Data Systems and Oracle Unleash the Power of High Performing Storage
SAN JOSE, Calif. & REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pillar Data Systems, a leading provider of enterprise network storage
systems, and Oracle, today announced the general availability of the
Pillar Axiom™ storage system and Oracle®
Database 10g Accelerator to deliver a storage grid that
simplifies administration headaches and helps eliminate complex
personnel requirements for Oracle DBAs to better administer their
storage requirements.
To facilitate the deployment of Pillar Axiom in an Oracle environment,
the accelerator program guides users through the process of defining
business and IT requirements to segment database objects into separate
tiers of storage for optimal performance. Pillar Data Systems and Oracle
work with clients to enable a true tiered storage infrastructure by
using options for Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), Oracle
Automatic Storage Management (ASM) and Oracle Enterprise Manager (Grid
Control) software. The net result is increased management efficiency and
agility for the database storage grids that can significantly reduce IT
costs. Best practices are also shared with IT staff in using these
combined technologies to dynamically respond to changes in business as
service levels rise or are reduced.
The Pillar Axiom system delivers efficient, flexible sharing of storage
pools by blending SAN and NAS into a true multi-tenancy system. The
combination of both SAN and NAS in the same storage system allows for
higher levels of consolidation and greater flexibility than legacy
storage systems. The ability to share the same back-end storage pool
with both SAN and NAS devices allows for straightforward migration from
one technology to the other. Oracle DBAs can select the most appropriate
storage for specific elements of multiple Oracle Databases.
"By helping to reduce implementation time and cost, simplify upgrades
and minimize downtime, Oracle sites can leverage the accelerator to
attain a superior ownership experience for their Oracle 10g grid
computing environments," said Mark Salser, senior vice president,
Oracle. "The capabilities of Pillar Data’s
Axiom System allow clients to store data across multiple tiers of
storage within a single system with predictable performance, workload,
and service levels to achieve measurable benefits that span the
enterprise."
"Pillar’s storage technology truly
complements Oracle software, in fact Pillar’s
unique AxiomONE software suite enhances the value of Oracle Database 10g
applications," said Brenda Zawatski, senior vice president, worldwide
sales and marketing, Pillar Data Systems. "Together, Pillar Axiom and
Oracle 10g Accelerator enable companies to maximize their
return-on-investment well beyond the initial acquisition costs of
physical storage. CIOs will no longer have to struggle with how to
physically tier classes of storage within their enterprise, but can now
tap into a single, consolidated infrastructure to power their grid."
