POWN News POW! Entertainment's Reality Series Goes Prime-Time International
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--POW! Entertainment, Inc. (OTC:POWN) announced that SCI FI Channel (UK)
has acquired the licensing rights to broadcast NBC’s
first season of POW! Entertainment’s
co-produced hit reality series, Who Wants to Be a Superhero? The
show will be at the heart of their early 2007 PRIME-TIME offering.
POW! Entertainment, Inc. co-produced the series in partnership with SCI
FI US and Nash Entertainment and it will be the first reality TV show to
air on SCI FI UK since Mad Mad House in 2004. Contestants vie for
the chance of winning a Lee-produced comic book and a made-for-TV-movie
by proving their superhero creation (costumes included) is worthy
enough. Each week, challenges are set “to
prove courage, integrity, self-sacrifice, compassion and resourcefulness.”
Like Heroes, which was also purchased, the six episode show is
distributed outside the US by NBC Universal International Television
Distribution and will run exclusively on SCI FI early next year.
In the recent news release, Jon Farrar, Programming Director at SCI FI
UK, stated, “We just loved the premise of 'Who
Wants to Be a Superhero?' After all, who hasn’t
wanted to be one? The show is compelling, addictive fun. It’s
been a ratings hit for SCI FI US and we’re
confident that it will do similar business for us here.”
